That was probably not the truth; I think we can assume that whatever Jetstream was told was at best a lie to get whatever the device was to Roam. If we trust that what Blackjack saw was real.

'Said' is kind of an invisible word. Its existence is more assumed than anything else. Most readers won't notice it; in reality it's far worse to try and 'freshen up " ' he/she/it saids'.
