Writing problem

Post by NitoKa » Sat Apr 14, 2012 1:30 pm

I've noticed in my fanfic, not only am i introducing too many new companions to the story so early, but i beilive im giving too many female ones as well. I've thought about doing a slight thing where my main characters party can only be 4 including himself in it. Would anypony mind that if they were reading it? I mean, with each new companion he gains a companion perk so it would make sense to have some leave or stay behind and he loses it.

You're thinking too much about numbers, the introduction of characters and their role/development should be determined by what they add to the story. If you can write a large cast well then the size doesn't matter, however, the smaller your cast the easier it is to write them well.

Why is introducing companions early on a problem? As long as the have a reason to be with the main character there shouldn't be an issue. As for too many female characters, the only reason that would be really bad was if they were all attracted to the main character (and even that can be justified with a high enough charisma).

In conclusion, fan fiction is fan fiction. As the author you can do whatever you want.
