Hmmm. Great idea, but unfortunantly, "Carrot Stick" doesn't fit
I have this semi-OCD that the names have to "fit" the character to work properly.
I will, however, make her catchphrase have something with carrots and sticks xD The idea is way too good to discard just because the name doesn't fit xD

Well, ideas hit me at odd times. I just got an idea for a later part of my story, but I'm unsure. Is it a bad idea to have a non-unity source for alicorns? Due to an upcoming part of my story, I got a character idea. (And in my own asshole fashion, she'll wind up blind, and a foal.) I figured I'd blame the antagonist for that segment of the story, as it would seem fitting.

And Jack, go for it. One of the nicer characters in my story has big guns skill tagged and uses a minigun battle saddle. Then again, she's partly meant as a contrast to the main character, who's not very good with other ponies. Diplomacy and explosives, on the other hand, would probably be harder to justify.

To be blunt... Yes.
you could have non unity alicorns, but having some tie to the unity in the first place is still advisable.
A few ideas as to how it could work:
An underdose of the FEV resulting in an uncontrolled, but weaker alicorn.
Some form of magical inhibitor keeping the goddess out.
Cyborg alicorn
Aicorn Canterlot ghoul (they weren't immune to the mist, just resistant)
Alicorn is with a Canterlot ghoul smoking one, who is acting as a mobile goddess jammer
The alicorn is a clone of a unity one made by some other prewar location/Stable (this could explain why they would be a foal).
in any of these cases assessing the goddess's spell library would be dangerous or impossible.

Part of the creation process was, at the idea's conception: "Take one of each kind of pony, lot's of experimental magics and radiation, and stir.", pretty much, (possibly crazy) ghoul scientist(s) turned a vault into a science lab full of mutants, in an attempt to make Alicorns.

Then I realized somebody would find it stupid to have non-unity unicorns, and decided to throw the idea up instead of getting burned by someone with a flamer.

Oh, I have an idea on how you could have a lab full of mutants. Have a ghoul capture a unity alicorn, use her in a forced breading program with different pony types (their not sterile, just all female) and do messed up "experimental magics and radiation, and stir" experiments on the resulting foals.

Possible. I mention the "three pony mix", because of two things: a wild mass guess on alicorns is they're all 3 pony types combined; and one of the plot points for this arch is how a character's family was ponynapped by "the mutants". It would make sense if there was a connection to somepony if she was going to become a major character.

Then again, I'm just concept sketching, and this is all going to go down in chapter 4, so I'll have plenty of room to change things accordingly.

Yah! I knew I had seen one of those around; I think you linked it somewhere on this site. But where...
On that note, I need those "blueprints" for character making too, which was linked on the same thread if I remember correctly.

You could always have a psudo-alicorn. Have it be some kind of mutation/birth defect. Such as a mare as two foals in the womb, one unicorn and one pegasus. Then she was exposed to radiation and the two foals fused into one being. A little desturbing I know, but also think of the story posibility having two minds in one body.

1. Unity Alicorn forced into pregnancy via either magic or old fashion rape
2. Kidnap pregnant earth pony and unicorn
3. Horrific magical experiment
4. Radiation and FEV samples
5. My God what have I done?
