Upcoming PNP: Dimestream looking for players!

Post by Dimestream » Wed Dec 18, 2013 11:11 pm

***FOR THE TIME BEING, THIS GAME IS NOW FULL and wow that really didn't take very long at all :raritystarry:
Group has decided to run with option 2, so... yay Discord! :pinkiecrazy:
I may add a fifth player if needed, but that's a ways off. :scootangel:

Interested in following it anyway? Live thread can be found here: http://forum.fallout-equestria.com/view ... f=24&t=687

-------

Hello, hello everypony. I'm putting together a couple of campaign ideas for something I'll likely start running in January 2014, as soon as the hectic rush of the holidays calms down. Here are the ideas I've been mulling running.

OPTION ONE:

:ajsmug: "Applejack's Infrastructure Adventures!"

Spawned from an argument Night Light and I had with Silverlight on the forums several months ago regarding crafting and invention rules, this campaign would focus on early-war to mid-war advances in technology, infrastructure, and magical research.

The action will focus on work at two rival universities working hoof-in-hoof with Celestia and Luna's respected schools for the gifted, and the products of the competition and cooperation between them. Not to mention field-testing them on battlegrounds, special assignments from the Ministry Mares, and the rivalry between the universities' two brightest graduate inventors, Early Sun (charming pioneer of electric power) and Nickel Tazer (Eccentric but wildly talented machinist).

Extensive testing will be done to the Inventing mechanics in the PNP document, and creativity is encouraged. This campaign will be mostly pre-war and all PCs will be either students or university employees. Expect a Steampunk-ish setting, graduating toward modern as more modern things are invented and become mainstream.

OPTION TWO:

:pinkiecrazy: "Adventures in Anarchy!"

Yes, yes, we all know the world blew up and everypony died, blah blah. But what became of those too powerful, too unpredictable to restrict themselves to your petty ideas of life and death? Why not introduce a little change to the stagnant and burned world, or better yet... some chaos?

This campaign will focus on a group of cultists who worship Discord, and are attempting to regain the great-grand-daddy of Chaos his ability to manifest in Equestria once more, so he can fix the world and make everyone happy again. Or so he says. Conflicts with established factions is nearly guaranteed, the truly strange will be the order of the day, and those who please their friend and master will be rewarded.

Wild Wasteland is a required Trait for all PCs in this game. Also, only players who understand that not all Chaos is Chaotic Evil, and not all Chaos is senseless randomness, will be encouraged to join. Anarchy can produce good results, if the order in the world is awful and needs removed, after all.

Standard post-war setting, set in the years between Sunshine and Rainbows and the activation of Gardens of Equestria.

----------------

Requirements for both are a little strict and I apologize for them in advance. Due to trouble I've had keeping games running smoothly in the past, there are a few caveats to both.

:applejackconfused: The time of day that I can run either of these is awful, due to my nocturnal schedule. Games will typically run from 12:00 AM PST (GMT-8) to 4:00 AM on a weeknight. This lends itself to night-owls and bronies in countries that aren't the U.S.A. primarily. Currently, either Wednesday or Friday night (or by technicality Thursday/Saturday morning) are best for me, though the actual day is incredibly flexible. We will just have to choose one and stick with it. Weekends are unavailable.
 All PCs must be well-adjusted enough to function in society. This means no Raiders, Slavers, amoral sociopaths, kleptomaniacs, psychotics, etc. I'll tolerate a morally-grey group, but not one that's outright evil, and I really prefer running games for good guys.
:rainbowwild: All PCs must be at least familiar with one another, and preferably be friends already (with very few possible exceptions). As much fun as dramatic reveals of dark and spooky secrets are, they can often wreck party dynamics, derail cooperation, and cause inter-party conflicts. In my extensive experience, cooperation inside the PC group is a great deal more fun than conflict.
:twilightangry2: THE GM IS A GRAMMAR NAZI. I'm not going to correct every mistake you make, because that's rude and not any fun for anyone. But I am going to vet players for ability to spell mostly everything well enough to understand, punctuate their sentences, and capitalize "I" when referring to themselves. That way, when I save the logs and edit them into shape, every player will be able to easily read and understand logs, and the story can be followed by non-players if they wish.

--------------------

If any of this appeals to you, and it hasn't driven you away yet, please reply to this thread or get hold of me on Steam. Indicate which game you'd rather play in, as well.

Current players have dibs on slots:

[1] Hidden_Fortune
[2] SlashySmiley
[3] NitoKa
[4] Lost_Art

There MAY be a fifth spot if things go well, but smaller parties foster more interactions with each other, so sticking with four for the moment.

Thanks, and let me know what you think! :pinkiehappy:

I would be interested in doing option 2 on Friday if there's a demand. Chaos vs. law morality has always interested me greatly, and Discordian anarchists sound like some fun ponies :p

Edit: I'm not opposed to option 1 however :p. Invention and stuff like that sounds enjoyable as well.

Would it be odd if I could do this? If possible I'd like a slot please.
As for the options both are tempting but my inner nerd always points to steampunk (what can I say I love the rails). So option one.

Starting up another game Dimestream? I would like to join, but the options themselves... well, I'm undecided at least on which game.

I'm honestly interested in the Discord Campaign, and I just happen to have an Anarchistic character who would love nothing more than the Wasteland to be free of the rule of factions ... However, I have a few problems.

1. I like being in a game where characters are introduced to each other. That's how characters reveal their personality and backstory to one another, which is fun. Yes, there might be arguments among party members if they aren't familiar with each other, but if everyone liked and can cooperate with one another instantly, that takes away the fun of the story part of the game.

2. I don't like the fact that my character is required to join a cult. My anarchist hates cults ... a lot. Now he would fancy the idea of finding Discord ... but he might have some problems on his ideal of "freedom". In fact, I'll be straightforward on this, I don't think the cult idea is a good idea at all. It just limits character creativity in my opinion.

Other than that, and I believe I'm only available on Wednesdays to Thursdays. I've been wanting to get into another group, and I'm interested, but I feel that there's a few problems with your idea.

Well, one of those points isn't negotiable much. I've had too much trouble with party cohesion and having zero reason to trust party members beyond "well, because we're in a game together." That's pretty much not going to change. :ajbemused:

The latter isn't as much of a big deal as you might think. All players would have known each other for a minimum of... maybe a week or two tops before the event the triggers the game starts, as it would be starting with a mission from Discord. And don't think "dark robes and sacrifice a goat" cultist. I use the term because it's the default for "small group of religious crazies." Which you really do have to be in order to worship Discord. More like ponies from various walks of life, brought together by a longing for change, or for anarchy, or hatred for the establishment. :flutterrage:

And of course, no one's forcing you to play, so if that's still off-putting enough, no harm, no foul, better luck next time. :twilightsheepish:

I agree very much. You can have a group of violent, anarchical ponies... and that doesn't mean they're necessarily good OR evil, and can actually skirt that whole point of morality entirely. Orange and Purple morality instead of Black and White morality fits Discord perfectly. :pinkiecrazy:

Is the timing workable for you, though? The hour it takes place at is kind of rough.

It looks like we're slanting more toward option two at this point, and I'm not sure whether I can keep up with you AND Hidden in the same party, but we'll see. :derpytongue2:

Again, looking like option 2 is preferred for now, though I may still run the other at a later date because it's too fun of an idea to pass up. :pinkiehappy:

Option 2 seems to be favored for now. I'll keep you posted. :rainbowdetermined2:

Thanks for the interest, folks. I'll be sorting this stuff this weekend and officially extend invites sometime over the next, during the week of Christmas, if I can get the stacks of unedited papers off my head long enough to reach a keyboard. :twilightoops:
