Group 5 Interlude: "Beyond Equestria"

"Caravans."

"If you had a message or a package you needed delivered, you generally hired a courier. If you had a whole lot of packages, or your package required skilled guards and heavy ordinance to protect, you hired a caravan. In their day-to-day business, caravan companies maintained trade between the cities and villages of the New Canterlot Republic. They made additional income supplying caravan crews for expeditions and special deliveries.

There were three major caravan companies in the New Canterlot Republic: the Water Merchants, Crimson’s Caravans, and Ditzy Doo Deliveries. All three of them had headquarters in the same town -- the town two of them were founded in -- Nexus. Nexus is one of the largest centers of civilization in the NCR. Built along both sides of a relatively safe stretch of the Ponytomic, the city was founded by the ponies of Stable 6/9 and has over a hundred years of history, some of which they even talk about freely.

Each of you has applied for work with Crimson’s Caravans. You’ve done caravan work before, although nothing particularly hazardous, and you are on good terms with Scarlet, the mare who runs the day-to-day business of Crimson’s Caravans. Yesterday, after weeks of waiting, you were notified by Scarlet that she had work for you. She asked you to come into the Crimson’s Caravans HQ bright and early this morning. That would be now."

Welp. It's that time again. Sort of.

DiceArt, the GM for Group 5, has had some bad drama come up and understandably can't make it to us every Wednesday. So while he's getting that sorted out, Kkat proposed that she run a little side campaign. An interlude, if you will.

25 years after the day of Sunshine and Rainbows, there is still trouble in the magical land of Equestria. Even after Lil'Pip changed the wasteland into something better, raiders still spilled blood for enjoyment. Slavers still spilled blood for wealth. Squabbling tribes still spilled blood for resources, old world relics, and land. However, as the decades passed, the greater Manehattan area renewed underneath the banner of the New Canterlot Republic, dedicated to harmony, commerce, and the rule of law. But as the republic and it's commerce grew, so too did it's problems. They needed to expand, and for that, you need caravans and settlers.

Join our herd of rag-tag misfits, ramblers, and gamblers as they try to receive and deliver a package they don't even know what is, to someplace they don't know where is, to someone they don't even know who is. All they know for certain is that the land is buzzing like a brewing storm cloud with factions like the Crimson Caravan, the Water Merchants, and the Twisted Manes tribe all preparing for a conflict with ponies like our protagonists right in the middle of things.

Because War -- War never changes, whether you're in Equestria or going beyond it.

How does the game seem to be going so far? Any comments, critiques, criticisms? Anything I need to work on improving?

Sooner or later (possibly next session) there will be combat. I fear I am not as fluent with the combat system as most players, so I will be relying on you guys to help me through it. I hope this is okay. I should be a quick learner.

I refrain from saying anything about the story so far because it would just end up sounding like a fanboy squee three paragraphs long.

In terms of combat, though, Ten probably handles it the best I've seen, so ask him. Just don't get too cheap, let players be inventive, and have the bigger enemies at least statted out before hand.

i like the game and i think that your GMing is fair, so far, maybe even a bit too generous, but i won't complain... for the combat part, i'll hide and wait, so i guess that managing my part will be easy

There's really no way anypony could complain about a story crafted by the genius behind this entire Sub-Fandom =D

As for the combat, I'm flattered that Fridge thinks of me so highly, and if you think I can help I'd be glad to offer.

If there is one thing I might suggest improving on, and I don't blame you for having trouble with it because I do too, but running more than one NPC conversation at once. As much as we're supposed to avoid it, party splits do happen, and you have to be careful not to neglect anyone for too long.

Well, as much as you like to resort to one-enemy bosses, it does help to keep things tense and quick, Ten.

As for party splitting, well, that's just absurd. Why, who would do a thing like that? That breaks the first cardinal rule of party togetherness!

:cwalk: Fair warning: now that people have gotten their basic equipment, starting this Wednesday, all prices will be altered accordingly by your Barter skill. Kid and Crescendo have your best Barter scores, so you might want to ask them to do your buying and selling for you.

Actually I'm finding that Single Enemy bosses tend to be lopsided both ways, so I'm gonna try and vary things up for the next boss encounter. You'll have to keep me appraised of what works.
