The Colosseum

Post by Dalken Starbyne » Sat Jun 30, 2012 4:00 pm

"Fillies and gentlecolts, welcome to the Colosseum! Chaos and cruelty! Carnage and mayhem! Watch ponies take on monstrosities and each other in this epic arena of the ages!"

- Pole Dancer

Alright, so this is an idea I put forth and seemed to get a little bit of interest in, so I'm tossing up a post for it as well. The idea of the Colosseum is fairly simple: it's a non-continuity, anyone-can-fight-anything arena of death and destruction. You can organize player-versus-player fights between characters, or you can organize player-versus-monster fights with any ops in the channel. We're still putting together what I'm calling the Arena Rules, but the rules for the Colosseum are pretty simple.

Ops are the GMs. They will oversee fights, enforce the rules, and play NPCs as necessary. Optionally, parties may agree on a non-op GM of their own choosing, but ultimately the ops have the final say should disputes arise in the channel.

If you are going to participate in a player versus player fight, both parties must come to an agreement on what rule set they wish to use. If a common ground cannot be reached, the fight will default to the Arena Rules.

Note: The Arena Rules are pending final completion. In the meantime, if a rule set cannot be agreed upon, the ops will decide one for you.

If you are going to participate in a player versus environment fight, your party may choose to use their own ruleset or the Arena Rules.

Regardless of if the combat is PvP or PvE, if you have decided upon a non-Arena rule set, you must link the rules (and any other pertinent documentation) to the present op(s) so that they can properly enforce the given rule set.

Please make sure the ops also have access to view your character sheet(s), as well.

The Colosseum has no continuity. If you die in the Colosseum, you can come back as many times as you like. It has lore (for example, Pole Dancer being the Colosseum's "mascot"), but it exists outside any form of canon. Anything that happens in the Colosseum should not be considered canon for the purposes of any RP group or other Fallout: Equestria environment, including the Colosseum itself.

There are three channels related to the Colosseum. Please respect their intended uses.
  • #FalloutEquestriaColosseum
This channel is for the action actually happening in the Colosseum. It is voice-only and will be restricted to IC actions made in the Colosseum.
  • #FOEColosseumOOC
This channel is for organizing fights. It is also the dice channel for the Colosseum. Voice will be given to combatants.
  • #FOEColosseumCommentary
This is a free speech channel for commenting on any ongoing fight or anything related to the Colosseum in general. The primary purpose of this channel is so that people not involved in the fight can comment (IC or OOC) without cluttering either of the other two, so as to keep an ongoing combat running smoothly.
Custom rules for individual fights (allowed equipment or perks, allocated caps to purchase equipment, etc.) must be agreed upon in any fight. If parties cannot agree upon customized rules, ops have the final say in what goes.

Finally: have fun! That's the whole point of doing this in the first place. Go nuts with it. Go over the top. Blow stuff up. Fight a whole wing of Super Alicorns and see if you can win! Just have fun while you're doing it!

Current ops for the Colossuem:
Menti
RainbowYoshi
Shadow77777778
Mirage

Lore
As mentioned, the Colosseum doesn't pretend to hold to any sort of canon or continuity. As such, it does have some far-fetched ideas in terms of how it operates. It also means, however, that there's a significantly larger range of freedoms in terms of what we can do in the Colosseum.

The Colosseum itself is in an unspecified location in the Wasteland. Some speculate it actually exists outside of the normal constraints of time and space. Others say that's just an old pony tale, and you really just have to have the right connections to find it. Either way, it seems that it's difficult to find it on purpose. Nopony seems to know where it draws the power for its advanced magics from, but anyone who has been witness to it knows it utilizes powerful magics that could probably be put to good use if not for the sadistic crew in charge: the Colosseum Collective.

The Colosseum Collective
  • Aired Grievance
Aired Grievance is a pegasus and was a freelance mercenary before he became the leader of this merry band of sick and twisted gladiatorial glee-seekers. He holds the key to the array of automated magical technology built into the Colosseum, including (but by far not limited to) the defenses (both internal and external), summoning spells, and mini-megaspells.
  • Pole Dancer
Pole Dancer is the Colosseum's mascot and main announcer. This spunky unicorn embodies the personality of the Colosseum, right down to its core bloodlust. She is the one to most commonly oversee and commentate matches, as well as pick "volunteers" from the crowd to participate. She is known to be a disturbing (if not downright frightening) mix of somehow simultaneously charismatic and psychotic, able to work up the same crowd that she pulls fight vict--er, volunteers from.
  • Ingot
This one-trick horn captures and keeps all of the Colosseum's main attractions. His powerful shields are able to contain even ultra-powerful super-alicorns and their magics. Aired Grievance often refers to Ingot as his "administrator of acquisitions and retention."
  • Anirak
"Head of security for the Colosseum" is this zebra's code of office. When "volunteers" become unruly, or some hero type gets it into their head that they might try to stop a fight or even shut the Colosseum down, it's said that Anirak can call upon the fury of the stars themselves to squelch such notions of grandeur. She's ruthless in the execution of her duties...and those who get in her way.
  • Reaper
As his name would suggest, Reaper deals with the inevitability of mass death that occurs within the walls of the Colosseum. This alicorn necromancer (who begrudgingly accepts the title of "administrator of recycling and maintenance" from Aired Grievance. Emphasis on "begrudgingly.") restores the dead "volunteers" to life after they fall in battle, keeps the Colosseum floor from mucking up with too much blood (though what he does with it is anypony's guess), and generally keeps the Colosseum from piling up with masses of dead bodies.

Interesting, this is a lot like an idea I spoke with others about in the past.

Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot much? XD

Though that's not a bad thing!
It's hard to kill memories when you remember everything.

Updated the rules to clarify that folks are free to choose their own GMs as well, as long as they agree on the GM (and, of course, that the potential GM agrees to do so).

Also, that match was awesome, and I'm looking forward to MOAR.
