CURRENT STATUS:
Chapter 22 is live.
Another place where the Fallout: Equestria Audiobook Project has landed. On the official FoE forums, no less!
I'm proud of you guys.
All the audio downloads and youtube links are here. You can probably see that already, but I figured I should declare it outright. As progress is made on the current chapter, I'll be updating that big bold line of text up there with the current status. However, I don't seem to update that as much as I post bulletins on youtube, so if you wanna see every single bit of drivel that drops from my fingers I suggest subscribing to my youtube channel. You don't have to if you don't want to. I'm not making any money of this endeavor.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1)What programs/hardware do you use?
I use audacity for all my editing. It's free and works well enough for my purposes. I use windows live whatever to make the videos. To record, I use a studio instrument condenser mic and a ZOOM H4neXt.
2)How do you get your voice that low for Steelhooves?
That's not me, that's actually a guest actor who goes by the name of Atticus. Atticus is actually the official "voice" of Steelhooves.
Kkat pretty much told me to contact him.
3)Do you need guest voices?
I don't necessarily need them, but if an audition were to appear in my inbox for a character that has yet to appear, I'll definitely give it a listen.
Requirements for auditions:
1. Unless you've had actual factual vocal accent training, you probably won't sound terribly realistic when you do one. Yes, I know I sound stupid when I do voices but that's a privilege of being the Man Behind the Curtain (pay no attention to him, please).
2. It's best to send me an unmodified mono wav file. Normalization to fix dc offset is fine, but please don't do anything synthetic to your voice. I need your natural sound, not some pitch-adjusted artificiality!
3. Quality counts! Auditions should have no clipping, no plosives (use a pop filter) and a clear sound. At the very minimum, you should use a nice desk mic.
4. I need one chapter's worth of a character's dialogue to judge an audition. If the character has only a few lines or only appears in a couple of chapters, give me everything!
5. Include in your audition how you want to be credited.
6. Future roles that have been filled:
Spike, Xenith, Daff, Blood.
4)I want to interview you/use you as a guest voice!
Uh, I'm flattered!
Send me an email (geolopony@derpymail.com) and we'll get down to brass tacks.
5)Can't wait for the next chapter/when is the next chapter/is the new chapter soon/WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG YOU HORRIBLE PERSON?
Again, this is a sort of vanity project. I work on it instead of having leisure time, and I'll tell you one thing: editing this audio is mind-numbing work. HOWEVER: I'll never give up on this. I will see this through to the end. It's just gonna take a while to do.
I'm disappointed with how slow it's going too.
6)I keep throwing money at my screen but nothing happens!
And nothing will happen... ever. I have not, cannot, will not accept money or any form of recompense for this Audiobook project or any other project I personally take up and champion.
If you want to pay me to narrate your own piece of fiction, that's another matter. Email me (geolopony@derpymail.com), but know some ground rules: I won't do it if I don't like it, I won't do it if I don't think it deserves to be narrated, and I won't narrate someone else's work on your behalf.
7)When are you gonna narrate $HIGHLY_REGARDED_PONY_FANFICTION?
Uh... probably never, to tell the truth. There's a few works I've already decided I won't narrate, and a few I do want to narrate but haven't found the time, and a gazillion I've never given a thought to either way. In the former are It's a Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door, Past Sins, and Project Horizons. That last one actually has an audiobook in pre-production as I type, so keep an eye on it. Included in the second category are Bubbles, Somewhere Only We Know, and... oh, probably one or two I can't remember right now. Those two I listed especially, however.
UPDATE 27/12/11
