What race/type is your character?

Post by The Jack » Sun Nov 27, 2011 4:59 pm

While looking at some of the previews of the Nuclear Winter Wonderland pictures just now, I started wondering... What's the type (as in; unicorn/pegasus/earth pony/other) ratio between main characters?
Could anyone who has created a story in some form please answer the poll? I'd love to know this, even if just for my own curiosity xD

EDIT: Edited in "Other" in the poll. Unfortunantly, the votes were reset then :(

What if I were to make a character? Would that count? Mine would be a Pegasus for sure although I don't think I will come out of a stable.

I think that Littlepip being a unicorn sort of sets the precedence. I didn't want to write about a different sort of pony. Add to that my username - and I've been using that since the late '90s, so again, I was predisposed to selecting unicorn.
I do have some variation in my team though, and accidentally it is reminiscent of Kkat's team.

Lead: undersized unicorn mare.
Second: regular unicorn mare.
Third: Steel Ranger (which means he is an earth pony)
Fourth: Well, that's where I have some fun. I don't want to spoil it, so if you want to know, you go read my story.

*looks at the numbers*
And if I add in two extra unicorns, for Fo:E and PH, then the ratio is 7/1/1/1.
Eyupp.
The difference was greater than anticipated though. And there are fewer earth ponies than I though. But that might change as more people vote.

In this particular poll, I'm just counting people who have written something. :pipshrug:

the current finished pony pool (I'm about 1/2 done) for NWWWH is:
Unicorn: 10 (including Pip, BJ, Ocher and Anne)
Pegasus: 2
Earth Pony: 4
Other: 2 (if you include Puppy, otherwise add one to the earth pony count)

And for Flankorage we have:
Lead: Ocher, unicorn (already included, at time of conception I didn't think earth ponies or pegasi could pick locks or do other fine detail work)
Lancer: Maple, earth pony
Big guy: not telling
Smart guy: Its complicated
The chick: Echo, pegasus
The sixth ranger: wouldn't you like to know?
(yeah, I'm an ass and I know it :D )

Though a few other questions I would be curious to see:
how many of those unicorns can actually use magic other than piddly TK?
what is the gender ratio?
Sexual orientation? (I put this one on because at one point I asked, jokingly, "Was Ocher was the only straight character out there?" on the proto doc and was answered in the affirmative from everyone on at the time.)
Yes, my avatar is a shameless plug.
Now with a link.
Operation Flankorage.

I will admit I did think about making Hotwire a earth pony rather than a unicorn, since I wanted to have him use a sniper rifle in a traditional sense, either laying prone or having the rifle propped on something. The funny thing is that what finalized my decision was that I wanted to give him a spell that allows him to create a magical conduit between two electronic devices, but I've decided against that spell because it doesn't make too much sense.

Hmm... Massive in favour of unicorns, as expected. And, more Earth Ponies than pegasi too, as expected.
Also, yeah, you're an ass. But I don't want spoiler, so it's the good kind of ass xD

I designed Gears so that he have average magic. As in, he can actually learn spells xD Somewhere out in the fic I plan him to learn some healing spells. "Fixin' ponies can't be that differnet from fixin' machines, can it?"
The gender ratio probably leans heavily to female, but I'll make a poll about that.
Sexual orientation probably also leans heavily towards gay or bi, following the example of 'Pip and BJ. Gears is both male and straight though, so Ocher ain't alone. xD
In my headcanon, there is an atleast 2/1 female/male gender ratio in Equestria, and there is no prejudice on gays or bisexuals, which naturally means that a greater percentage of the populace might have tried it at some point.

hi hi

Winter Bloom is an Earth Pony. I think Earth Ponies get overlooked because they don't have hands or telekinesis. But with a little creativity I think they can do just about as much as Unicorns can in those regards. Applejack's fancy lassoing skills are a good example.
