Printed Book

Post by Arcane_Scroll » Fri Oct 14, 2011 10:22 pm

In case anyone missed it, somepony has printed out a copy of Fallout: Equestria for a class project and it is beautiful! Once the story is finished (and I hope it goes on forever) I plan on doing something like this for my own book collection.

Yeah I think everyone would love this in book form. But you would have to split it up.It would just be to big otherwise.
When life gives you lemons, it is because there is a horrifying monster in the next chamber with 400,000,000 HP, whose only weakness is lemons.

I'm thinking at least four volumes at this point, maybe more.

Something along those lines yeah. But where to split the story up is a big question...

Yeah, that's going to be the hard part, the arcs aren't consistent. But, it sure is going to be fun (and expensive). I would love to do the entire thing like the book linked, but that would cost a small fortune.

There is probably some Print on Demand service that could be used to print individual copies. A professional print run is of course out of the question, and I really don't like the idea of trying to spit it out of my toy laser printer. I used to print my own fictions with a dot matrix printer! How times have changed.

Lulu is cheap, I'm going to use it unless I find something better.

Just did a quick experiment with a small printer's pricing (gorham printing).
The price I've found for a four book set (the auto pricing wouldn't let me check on the 1084 page total were up to at this point) is $38.84, if 25 sets are produced. $22.88 for 100.
So, ya. Unless someone is willing to order them in bulk (dropping nearly $1000 in the process) and then sell them to everyone else this would be unreasonably expensive (and the page count is still going up). Still an utterly glorious concept though.
Yes, my avatar is a shameless plug.
Now with a link.

It costs over $30 to buy a novel at at bookshop here. That doesn't sound so bad.
