Cloudships

Howdy.
I'm pretty much a "tech junkie", so from their first appearance in the story, Raptors always fascinated my mind to the point that I once again started doodling with Google Sketchup and 3DSMAX. About 20-22 hours of work, my interpretation of the Raptor was born:

There was little to go on from the story itself:
-It's a sleek, long warship.
-Black/dark hull paint.
-12 wind propellers/turbines as propulsion.
-Clouds keep it in the air, method and position unknown.
-Has massive magical energy cannons.
-Has a hangar bay in the center, which is covered on top with glass (serious design flaw if you ask me).

With this little info, I took the liberty with the design, which I derived mostly from the Fallout 3 Vertibird's half-curved/half-blocked design.
If you have any suggestions/ideas, and if I made any mistake in the fluff, let me know. Hope you like it =).

OMG, this is amazing! I don't see a single flaw with this design!

Maybe the glass is magically strengthened?

Maybe... Still, to place the pegasi need for the sky ahead of the integrity of the hull seems like a bad idea... I don't think, even magically reinforced, glass frame may protect as much as armored hull plating. Add it that it is placed right onto the most vulnerable point of the ship (er, chassis center, er, war charriots with lots of bombs), it seems pretty much stupid. But still that's the canon, so I did not dare defy it =P.

Well, pegasi seem to act on impulse instead of well thought out plans, Rainbow Dash and Calamity are both prime examples of this. Maybe the concept of not having a sun roof over the hanger bay is simply foreign to them?

That might be it, but remember: not even their fabled power armor was designed by them, but unicorns. And Calamity stated that the construction, and the design itself is highly relied on unicorn magic, so I think cloudships are rather the joint creations of the Ministry of Wartime Tech and Ministry of Magic with possibly pretty dumb ideas, called "needs" of Ministry of Awesome / Pegasi thrown into it.

Dunno right now... Probably I can get something to convert it from .skp. I'll see what I can do when I get back home tomorrow. By the way, if you're experienced with stuff like this, you're welcome to animate/photo texture it (it's just simple color texture now).
