Fallout: Equestria Roleplaying Game

Post by subaqueousReach » Sat Dec 10, 2011 11:52 am

I'm a recently new Brony and having just caught up on F:E I figured I would let everypony know that I'm working on a F:E Roleplaying game. I'm mostly posting this out of curiosity to see if anyone else has started something similar that I may be able to get some input from. I've just been informed about Project Horizons, and will be hopefully pulling a swath of new ideas from that, but I'll put up what I've got so far and what I've got planned.

The game uses Fallout 3's S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system as it's foundation, meaning the game uses percentiles (2d10 or d100) rather than d20 like Dungeons and Dragons.

Completed Features (First Draft)
  • - Character creation is fairly solid. Will be altered and modified after a first draft playthrough to weed out any possible issues.

    - 5 Playable Races: Earth, Pegasus, and Unicorn Ponies as well as Griffons and Zebras, each with their own special traits and abilities.

    - Completed skills system. Taken directly from Fallout 3.

    - Optional starting traits with equal bonuses and penalties to make characters better fit your playstyle.
(An example is the Ghoul trait: You no longer need to eat, drink or sleep and you are immune to poison and radiation, however you have -1 to Strength and Charisma due to your decrepit state.)

    - 5 stat packages for players who don't want to deal with the character creation process, or just want to jump right into the game. Each having the ability points, skill points, traits, and other stats pre-generated.

    - Full list of perks with a levelling cap of 20.

    - A quickly growing equipment list including weapons, armor, chems, and other supplies a player will need to survive the wasteland.
(Weapons and Armor lists have been completed)

    - Karma system. Affects your disposition towards factions and people.

    - Combat System successfully tested and working appropriately.

Yet to be implemented
  • - Event based perks system such as Touched by Taint. This will serve more as a list of ideas to help a Game Master, but can still be implemented in most sessions.

    - Flight and Cloud manipulation for Pegasi and Griffon players. Still working out Flight for the combat system, but Cloud Manipulation is completed.

    - Magic system for Unicorn players. Levitation is completed, Spell balancing is being worked on.

    - Alchemy and Zebra Martial Arts for Zebra players, three styles of Martial Arts each with their own advantages.

    - Vehicles and Vehicle combat, still being tinkered with.

    - Hazards of the Waste: This includes Radiation, Taint, Enervation, Addiction, etc... All the things the Wasteland has that can kill you =D Simple rules have been fleshed out, but are being improved.

    - Hostile Forces and Wildlife are still being tested for balance issues, but are close to completion.

    - Chem Addiction! A simple yet complex system is being worked on slowly, but we're liking how it's coming along.
Some people may disagree with the use of the D100 system saying it's more complicated, but I find it's a much easier system to follow, having played games using D100 at a very young age with my brothers and my dad. Also, Earth ponies may seem to be at a disadvantage since the other races each gain such helpful and talented feats, but I've designed the Earth ponies to be innovative and "quicker-to-learn" than the other races making their skill progression much faster, hopefully balancing them properly.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer and keep you all updated on my progress as often as I can. I may be unresponsive for long periods of time as I have other projects that require my more immediate attention, but I will hopefully never leave people in the dark for too long.

I don't mean to sound discouraging at all, but we already have something like four of these going on. I think Sunrise's set is most complete, enough that we're actually getting a campaign (or at least a few test games) going with it in the thread here.

Yes actually just after posting this I found and read Sunrise's and it seems to work similar to how I'm writing my rpg. I mean no offense to the writer but the manual seems sloppy and a little rushed, like they were trying to put it out before other people. But this is just my opinion, it may just be me but I tend to find it easier to want to read things when they're better organized.

Updated the Completed and To Do lists. Still tinkering with a bunch of the Completed list, getting new ideas and re-configuring old ones to match, but they seem to work pretty well with my test group.

Also I've got an assistant helping me with the project now so things will be moving much quicker =D.

Once we finish the game (hopefully within the next few months) we'll be releasing it in PDF format, so keep an eye on the updates for new information on our progress and don't be afraid to drop an idea or two if you think it'll help the game. ^_^

Just asking: Would it be feasible to have buffalo as a charecter option? It seems to me that they could survive well in a world like this. Also, fills in as the standered "heavy" race.

Well I just got my computer back up and running. It's been out of commission for about a month, but thank Celestia I was able to save all my files.

As for the Buffalo character race I'll definitely find a way to try and work them in, though I'm not sure what I'd give them as a bonus since I sort of made Earth ponies the "heavy" style race. If I don't add them right away I'll probably make a little Buffalo Race Errata PDF for players.
