Re: FoE PnP RPG group (Group 3)
Okay, because my response to a comment on the Suggested Combat Revisions is longish, I'm going to give it here.
There is a section concerning parrying that was added by tosxychor. The section gives rules where parrying a larger weapon with a smaller weapon only blocks part of the damage. The rule involves weapon size category comparisons and reductions of 75% for a difference of 1 or 50% for a difference of 2 size categories. My initial objection was to point out that this is complex and melee weapons are not divided by size currently. The distinction is doable, of course, but that doesn't invalidate it being needlessly complex. Understandably tosxychor questioned my criticism since people generally don't take time to write rules they don't think are spiffy.
So...my reasons in detail for thinking that rule doesn't apply:
1) 75% is not the nicest fraction. It's easily doable with a calculator or written on scratch paper, but this was framed as a fast and simple system. Using a calculator or scratching out equations even for something like that goes against that aesthetic. Probably best avoided.
2) There are legends of martial artists being able to parry swords bare-handed. They could all be false, but ponies have hooves and therefore have an advantage in that area. For ponies it is at least slightly more plausible.
3) Parrying is not the same as blocking. Hollywood aside, you almost never catch an incoming sword or other weapon on your own weapon precisely because that requires you to overcome the other person's strength plus the extra momentum gained from the weapon being swung or thrust. Instead, a proper parry involves redirecting the incoming attack to someplace where your body isn't. Generally you are either completely successful or you aren't.
Anypony else want to weigh in on this? So far the only people to comment at all are mimezinga, tosxychor, circle24, and myself. C'mon, this is the game you're playing. Don't you have any opinions? I'm still looking for some more input on Strength requirements for guns. The rules I wrote only worry about minimum Strength for automatic weapons and only applies a flat penalty since this keeps the rules fairly clean and simple as mimezinga requested. Tosxychor proposed rules that require all guns to have Strength requirements, and if under the requirement, a penalty would be applied based off how far under you were; this is more realistic and similar to what I originally wrote. I am on the fence on this one, but right now, the GM vote weighs heavier since mimezinga has to manage this stuff in the game. So come on, thoughts?

Hehe, putting it like that, I guess it makes sense. I was thinking more in blocking terms than actual parry, so I was at fault here :p

Bah. There's no 'fault' involved, tosxychor! You proposed an idea that didn't work out. Not all of my ideas were perfect either, the latest example being that foals are no longer in a separate size category. Now if only a few more ponies would comment. I can has help from pretty ponies, Puppy please?

Update! Due to discussions with Sunrise, Strobe, and tosxychor, some weapons (mostly pistols and other low AP guns) have had their damages tweaked. Also, Full Auto now has a base -10% penalty to hit with an additional -10% penalty if under Strength, however weapons capable of Full Auto may now use Suppression Fire. Additionally, mini-guns now have the multi-barreled special rule that will help mitigate the possibility of jamming. Please check to see if your weapon has been altered, and if so, change the stats on your sheet.
Again, player input is requested on these changes!

if nothing changes, group 3 will play on saturday at the usual time
Re: FoE PnP RPG group (Group 3)
alright, by default, group 3 WILL NOT play tomorrow, i'm sorry but I'm supposed to be at a party; the only issue is that no one has still told me something about that and no one knows if we're doing it or not. no, not even the guy that is supposed to put the lace for the party... so, i don't know, sorry, and since i don't want to keep you blocked because of me, let's say we don't play. if the situation will change, i'll post again here.
