It can't do any good in real air combat - exept made a better target!

Well we don't really know that. What works here may not work the same way in Equestria. They seem to have a magical talisman for everything. They could have one that reduce's the weight of one's armour, makes it more aerodynamic.

It all comes down to one thing- Magic! they seem to be able to do anything with it.
When life gives you lemons, it is because there is a horrifying monster in the next chamber with 400,000,000 HP, whose only weakness is lemons.

Well, of course! But either in Fallout: Equestria wiki confirmed, than wery few Pegasai could reach supersonic speed. So, any supersonic fighter... may simply hunt on them like on turkeys!
