It was a common WWII German tank gun size. Tigers tanks used it. There is also one of their 88mm Flak guns on the Hoover dam wall in Fallout: New Vegas, and trust me, it is big.

Yeah the 88MM Flak guns are not small at all. They could put a hole in most things from quite a range. I used to hate seeing them when I played some WWII era miniature games... I still hate Tigers to this day...
