So give them three extra stat points instead of six...

Given how well some sets of perks scinergize, giving earth ponies extra traits would make them just as over powered. That is why, along with the fact that FO:E and FOE:PH both use perks to improve spells, I'm standing behind using perks for all three, where your race determines a free, starting perk (which earth ponies could chose as intense training if they want to be stronger or tougher) and affects your selection as the game progresses (earth ponies wouldn't have less options [okay, less than unicorns as an extensive spell library would be needed], just different ones).

And as we seem to essentially be using the game engine I feel safe to assume that this would run off D%s and D10s.

Oh, and one other question. How ridged do we want to make this system?

So, we could possibly give Earth Ponies a starting trait that gives them plus one point of SPECIAL to a stat, Unicorns get one that gives them magic and Pegasi flight. Could possibly work.

Now, here something I've been thinking of. Alicorns, more specifically, balancing them to allow players to use them.

Was thinking a modified perk rate thats substantially higher, like a perk every 3 or even 4 levels. In return they gain a bonus 7 SPECIAL points and both magic and flight. Sound reasonable?

so basically Alicorns start strong but improve slowly? They would also need a limiter - something that prevented them from working against their sisters or the goddess.

Yeah, Alicorns have a ton of power, but gain perk at a slower rate to compensate. Also, leave it up to the GM and Player to agree on a suitable back story for how they work relative to the Unity. For all we know they could be a botched result, affected by a different batch of taint in another part of Equestria or any number of valid reasons.

we may want to hammer out a core system before we start on expansion packs like Alicorns, zebras and ghouls

The original Fallout had some pretty good RPG mechanics. I think it would be simpler to use than the more recent Fallouts simply because they are based more in real time than turns. Unless we did a sort of pre-planning phase where everyone dicated what they were going to do at the same time.

Melee Weapons, Unarmed, Explosives, Lockpick, Magical Weapons, Big Guns, Survival, Barter, Speech ,First Aid/Doctor, Repair, Science, Small Guns, Sneak

Sound like their any more skills we need apart from that list?

Also, DT is easier to use than DR.

Was just thinking (well I was thinking about statues but well..), can we really use SPECIAL for ponies ? I mean.. we can't just take the whole thing from a fallout game and use the same rule for the characters.. I mean.. a strong pony will carry a lot more than a strong human, but he's weaker than an human in close-combat (well.. a pike-armed strong human :P)..

Agility is even more obvious, a non-agile pony just can't turn around as easy as a biped, right ? But when they gallop.. well.. not the same thing too. '^^ So I was just wandering : Why try to make Magic and Fly work with a system that just won't represent easily what we want ? SPECIAL could be used too.. but they can't do the same thing than in the games.. (Or I don't think about something and I just write something silly :p)

Interesting point, but you have to remember, we are talking about intelligent, talking, candy coloured ponies that inhabit a land filled with dragons, manticores and an assortment of other mythological beings. Does it matter if SPECIAL was made for humans? It's just a rating of 1 to 10. What 1 means and what 10 means are up to us to decide.

But if need be we could go for 1 to 100 system.
