Head canon on the origin of the Megaspells

Post by Quick Study » Wed Nov 30, 2011 12:16 pm

Last night I was wondering, with as many stories out there has anypony covered the creation of the megaspells and who was the pony that created them. Before you say it, Fluttershy commissioned the creation of the healing megaspells, since she isn't a unicorn there is no way she could have created them. The reason why I'm wondering this is because I'm planing on telling the story through memory orbs. Well any way here is a very brief summary of my story of the origin of the megaspells.

The war was going bad and Fluttershy desired a better way to heal those wounded on the battlefield. So she asked Dr. Albit Enisteed (tempoary name, was the original name I was going with, but I've already decided to change it, I'm just using it here as a place holder) a renouned professor at Canterlot Medical University for help. Dr. Enisteed has been on the cutting edge research on methods of using spell based healing. She asked if him about the promise of using medical spells on the battlefield. Dr. Enisteed offers up a theory he had been working on, casting spells on a large scale, but he hasn't been able to get the funding he needed to fully research it. Fluttershy recruits Dr. Enisteed to be the head medical researcher for the megaspell project.

After several months the megaspell project was ready for its first field test, unfortunately Dr. Enisteed injured himself so his younger sister lead the team to perform the test. This test was scene in the first death of Applesnack memory orb.

After the attempted assassination of Princess Celestia, Enisteed was approached by Twilight Sparkle about converting the megaspells for offensive use. Einsteed refused claiming that is would be against medical ethics to do so. Several months later Einsteed's sister was killed in a Zebra raid. Overcome with grief he decides to create the combat megaspells for the Ministry of Magic.

I'll go much further into the story in mine, but what do y'all think. Also if y'all have any suggestions for the new name for Enisteed and his sister.

Hm. Not bad. Could easily work.
Though, I'd advice calling him "Einsteed", not "Enisteed"; the former is much easier to recognize than the latter.
If the idea hadn't already been used, I would've proposed you used Doctor Trottenheimer (ponified version of Doc. Oppenheimer) and his famous quote, "for I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds". PH stole that one ages ago though, so that's a no-go.

Yea I originally thought about using a ponified version of Openheimer, though I was going with Clopenheimer, but since Somber used Trottenheimer I thought it was too similar.

Also Enisteed was just a place holder, I decided I wanted to go with a more medically based name.

hi hi

I remember Kkat saying something about how the spell cast by Twilight Sparkle when they defeated discord and reversed his chaos was the precursor to modern megaspells. I suspect whoever Fluttershy got to create the megaspells studied Twilight Sparkle's notes first.

As for names: I might suggest "Los Pastures," after Louis Pasteur.

Also: Oppenheimer only borrowed that quote from the Bhagavad Gita, a Hindu text.

I was actually thinking of a more typical name, rather then a ponified human name. I'm actually re-reading my two favorite medical themed mangas, Saijou no Meji and Team Medical Dragon, for some ideas. Since both the main characters have traits in common with the Doctor(no not THAT Doctor), such as having extraordinary medical skills, isn't afraid to try risky procedures if it will help the patient, and will always put the patient first even if it would cost him his job. So pretty much think House with good bedside manners and without the drug problem.

But House's bedside manners are awesome! xD

Oh wow, glad to find that i wasn't the only one thinking about the megaspell origins as it becomes an important plot point in my side-fic (Renisance, not yet published, but hopefully soon [damn university and too much work])
I haven't yet found a plausible name but i never thought about using a ponified Einstein as he made the theory, the manhatten project was a different group all together. While oppenheimer WAS a possibility, maybe keeping him as the 'father' theorist while developers could be other(s). for my side-fic, i planned to dwell into its beginnings, reasons (innocent or not) while focusing on one of my co-stars who is deeply related to its existence. I know its a big piece to be chipping at for just a side-fic but should in someway be incoporated because of its result, because without it, where would fallout equestria be?

thanks for the note about the relation with twi, i also remember a bit with somber how theres a letter, i think back in the dj-pon's library, I think about luna 'requesting' twi to weaponize the megaspells in the race against the zebra's pursuit. If no one has yet dug into the megaspell creation, then i will be happy to (and have made plans).
