At the time of the war, right before the megaspells were released, Equestria might have had the technology to set up a space station. I'm not sure about the zebra nation though, since I haven't seen too many stories about what they were up to.

Well, Zebras had robot armies, as well, so they must have had an advanced view on technology.

That sounds awesome! make sure there is an alien mother-ship, or the main char at least observes it getting blown up. because i think sompony else already made one with aliens....
